Children begin to understand their place in the world by thinking first about their immediate environment.  We explore Stapleford through local walks to ensure that our children know about their home town.  As children's knowledge grows, they explore their nearest city and contrast with a rural environment, understanding how the topography of places differs.  They explore simple maps and create their own based on their knowledge. In year 1, children learn about the United Kingdom, its countries and capitals.  In year 2, children explore the wider world, continents and oceans.
