    Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Albany Infant and Nursery School, we are deeply committed to supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a way that inspires and empowers them to reach their full potential. We provide personalised support across all areas of need, ensuring that every child is given the tools to succeed, no matter the challenges they may face.

Our approach is nurturing and inclusive, fostering a caring environment where each child’s development is valued. We work closely with families, maintaining strong communication to ensure that the support is comprehensive and truly tailored to each child. By cultivating a space of encouragement and compassion, we aim to help every student thrive and grow into confident, capable individuals.

All children are equally valued members of our school, regardless of their journey to us.  We believe they should feel secure and supported, have opportunities to experience success and know that the surrounding adults have high expectations for their learning.

Our school provides a broad and balanced curriculum for all children with the National Curriculum being the starting point for planning, which, alongside effective assessment and provision planning, sets suitable learning challenges and responds to children’s diverse learning needs.

Should your child require additional support, we will ensure that we work closely with partner agencies to meet your child's needs.

We share a whole school  ambition to ensure all children are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Definitions of special educational needs (SEN) taken from section 20 of the Children and Families Act 2014.

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

    1. have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or

    2. have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.

If you feel that your child falls into either of these categories, or have any questions about special educational needs at ALbany Infant and Nursery School, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Matthias who will be happy to discuss provision and how we can work together to ensure your child is happy and excited about school life.
